Patti Bury
Andrea Wise Patrick Whiteford Keith DeBarr Rachael Birgy Trip Date: Wednesday, May 20th. Projected time frame: 6 am-10 pm....get ready for a LOOONNNG but GREAT DAY!!!! Thanks to everyone who offered to go. Keep in mind that these are the "official" chaperones who will be in charge of students and groups. Some costs still apply. If you will be driving down on your own, you can hang out with your child, but will have to pay full price for everything. Also, any parent attending will be required to file volunteer paperwork with the district. We will be having an informational meeting for all parents interested in going soon. We will have a small party for Valentine's Day on Thursday, February 12th. It will only be the last hour of the day. If you want to you can send treats. Healthy snacks are encouraged! Many kids have already bought Valentines. If you buy them there has to be enough for each child in the class. We have 25 students, so leaving them blank is an option. However, if you would like to personalize them, here is a list of names:
Meadow Beck Madison B. Kayden Cameron Lillian Sonny Keanna Alivia Nolan Zoey Zander Charlotte David Tyler Matthew Grace Michelle Cody M. Austin Ryan Brooklyn Madison W. Nevaeh Cody W. We are so excited to announce that we have solidified a date for the fourth grade field trip!
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 20, 2015!!!! More details will follow and a chaperone letter will be coming home tonight if you are interested! Visit our "Go Fund Me" page on the link below to donate: http://www.gofundme.com/lep8wg Next week in math we will be doing 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. The math quiz from Friday will be stapled to homework so you can see where your student is making errors. Please help your child with these types of problems at home.
From my observations we are at the point in the year where kids that don't know their basic multiplication and division facts are really starting to struggle. Please check in often on Powerschool to check grades. I have put a lot of hard work into helping kids master their facts and be able to succeed on difficult problems. It was disappointing to see some of the low scores this week. As mentioned earlier, kids that aren't passing their basic facts for the week will be in for recess practicing them. In addition, many of the homework packets are coming back incomplete and without parents checking over things. I strongly encourage you to look things over and/or help your child each night with their homework. Starting this week, students are getting 5 difficult facts on Monday's and will study them at different times during the week. This should include copying the facts for additional practice at home. Each Friday they will take a quiz on the 5 facts. If they get any of them wrong, they will be in for recess practicing ALL of the facts, until they pass.
IB units have started, with "Where We Are In Place and Time" as the theme. Our current line of inquiry is: How do geographic tools help us to understand our world? Attention Parents. We are looking for someone who is willing to pop popcorn for the school on Friday January 16th. It starts at 8 am and usually lasts an hour and 30 minutes. Please let me know if you're interested.
Students have been given their AR goals. Make sure they are taking quizzes to get their point goals by JANUARY 23rd!!! Students are graded on their comprehension scores from this program. The last day to have those completed is the 23rd. Please check with your child to see their progress towards this goal.
Coming up...March is Reading Month Challenge.... In the month of March students meeting their goals will be put in a drawing to be able to go out to dinner in Traverse City with Mr. McCarty and his family!!! Kahn Academy I am setting up student accounts for this program, but in the meantime students can access lessons to improve their math scores via my website. We have done this in the computer lab, so they should know how.
